For years, the traditional CO2 Laser has shown unsurpassed results for wrinkle reduction and skin resurfacing. It is a technology that has proven to be the absolute gold standard in skin resurfacing and wrinkle reduction. However, the downside to this treatment is the need for general anesthesia, and after treatment, a long painful recovery.

The Mixto SX is a new age Fractional CO2 Laser system. It yields the same dramatic results as its predecessor without the need for general anesthesia, and without the lengthy healing process. It uses the same 10,600 nm laser energy as the traditional CO2 Laser. But instead of total ablation, the Mixto SX treats the skin in a fractional manner. Laser energy is delivered in a computer-generated pattern, using an algorithm that allows the skin to be treated in a virtually painless way. Micro columns of laser energy are delivered to the skin resulting in only 20% of the epidermis being ablated. The remaining 80% of un-ablated tissue helps to provide faster healing for the treated area. Immediately after treatment, as a result of the lateral heat delivered to the dermis, collagen is heated and therefore contracts. Also, collagen production begins and continues for up to 6 months.

Other fractional devices use similar technology, but they are not using the 10,600 nm CO2 Laser energy that is critical for proper skin resurfacing and tightening. These other fractional treatments usually require 5 to 8 visits to achieve only marginal results. The Mixto SX is a device that requires only one treatment for total patient satisfaction.
